What 15 shots on my 8-iron actually told me, once I stopped staring at face angle and started reading the pattern in the path.

Fifteen shots. Same 8-iron. Same ball. Bushnell Launch Pro. Working on tempo, not shape. What came back was fifteen pull-fades in a row: average club path of -5.4 degrees, face 2.1 degrees open to the path, face 3.3 degrees closed to the target. Carry 8.7 yards short of baseline. Spin 340 rpm higher.

The temptation is to blame the face. The face was closed to the target, which is why the ball started left. But the face was actually open to the path, which is why it faded back. The face was reacting to the path.
